Today's Biggest Developments

  • Toilet roll stockpiling turned deadly in Australia when a woman pulled out a knife in the supermarket aisle.
  • Iran has temporarily freed 54,000 inmates to combat the spread of the disease in overcrowded jails. They've all pinky-promised to come back when it's over.
  • Italy, with over 3,000 confirmed cases, has closed all schools and universities until 15 March.
  • Coronavirus dealt a death blow to already-sickly UK airline Flybe, which has collapsed into administration. Airlines expect to lose $113B globally.
  • California saw its first death yesterday and declared a state of emergency.
  • American mortgage rates have hit a record low after the Fed reduced rates by 50 basis points earlier this week.
  • 1,000 New Yorkers have been asked to self-quarantine after a thirteen-person cluster broke out.
  • The American Congress passed a spending bill to authorise $8.3B to combat the disease. These two voted no:
